San Martin, CA — With headlines swirling about a fabricated $5 million dog sanctuary allegedly funded by George Kittle, one California nonprofit is setting the record straight and spotlighting the real impact the NFL star has made.

Operation Freedom Paws (OFP), based in San Martin, is a nationally recognized nonprofit that pairs shelter dogs with veterans, first responders, and individuals living with disabilities. For years, Kittle has quietly supported OFP’s mission through donations and advocacy.

“On behalf of OFP clients, this is what matters. George isn’t just a donor — he believes in the work. He asks questions. He believes in the use of dogs pulled from rescues to become service dogs to support veterans, first responders and others,” said Mary Cortani, OFP founder and U.S. Army veteran. “That’s the kind of support that lasts longer than any headline.”

In response to the viral rumor, Kittle clarified on X (formerly Twitter):

“There is no $5 million dog sanctuary… although that would be awesome.

If you’re looking for an amazing org that pairs service dogs with veterans, check out @OpFreedomPaws.” – @gkittle46

Kittle previously selected OFP as part of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats campaign and has made a generous contribution to support the organization’s no-cost, 48-week client training program, which helps individuals living with PTSD, mobility challenges, and other complex medical conditions.

While the viral sanctuary rumor was false, it inadvertently highlighted the importance of organizations like OFP and underscored the ongoing need for public support.

About Operation Freedom Paws

Founded in 2010, Operation Freedom Paws empowers veterans and individuals with disabilities to train their own service dogs, most of which are rescued from shelters. The 48-week training program is provided at no cost to the client, allowing them to rebuild trust, regain independence, and thrive with the support of a canine partner. OFP is based in San Martin, California.
