At Operation Freedom Paws, our commitment to our clients doesn’t end when they complete the program. It’s just the beginning of a lifelong partnership. One recent experience reminded us how important that promise truly is.
Romeo, a service dog matched through our program, spent the last few weeks back in our care under unexpected and urgent circumstances. His handler, who has faced a series of serious medical emergencies, needed to be hospitalized multiple times, including a frightening episode that required immediate emergency care. In the chaos, her family knew exactly what to do: get Romeo to OFP.
Because of the strong bond built over time and the trust in our team, Romeo had a safe place to go, no questions asked. Whether it was a brief ER visit or an extended hospital stay, Romeo was loved, fed, and well cared for by our staff. Even when his handler couldn’t communicate, her first concern upon waking was for Romeo. Knowing he was safe gave her peace of mind to focus on recovery.
This story is not just about one dog. It’s about what it means to be part of the OFP family. We are here for the long haul. Whether it’s support groups, emergency boarding, or just being a phone call away, we remain a dependable source of care and connection.
When Romeo returned home, his handler shared a touching sentiment: “We’re going to build ourselves back up again. We have a long to-do list, but together, that list doesn’t stand a chance.”
We believe in tomorrow, and we’ll always be here to help our clients and their service dogs face it together.
